A small update on OfficeVilla Breadband: This week the first parts of the aluminum, blank anodized curtain wall will be installed.
Within the framework of the Masterplan for the redevelopment of Maastricht station, the retail space of the AKO is being restored. In the design by Ruland Architecten, the entrances are made visible and open, in a contemporary way that fits into the monumental architecture of the station.
OfficeVilla Breedband is about details. The first masonry walls have been completed and the ‘block bond in three layers on top of each other, built in stretcher bond’ is clearly visible. The dark hand-moulded stone is laid with a 10 mm deepened joint.
The renovation and furnishing of the ground floor Hotel Ibis Amsterdam Center is ready. Ruland Architecten was commissioned by Accor to make the design for the hull. Phillip Watts Design (UK) made the design for the interior. The mix of different functions (restaurant, bar, foyer), the open plan floor plan and the very English finish and furnishing make it a pleasant space to stay.
In the history of modern architecture the freely divisible floor plan, also known as the Plan Libre by the architect Le Corbusier, has had a lot of influence. His drawing of floors supported by several columns is iconic. In this phase of the structural work, Villa Breedband is an expression of this pure functional architecture.
A fantastic view over Arnhem unfolds from the third floor. In the foreground Arnhem Central station, to the left the Eusebius Church and on the horizon the John Frost Bridge is clearly visible. With only the roof to go, the construction holiday is approaching. After this, the masonry and construction of the facade will start according to schedule.
After the completion of the first floor the contracter started the formwork of the second floor. The contours of the curved, overhanging floor are already recognizable. The bicycle and pedestrian path run parallel to the facade on the ground floor and first floor.
The constructive work on the foundation and basement has been completed. A final touch is being made to the reinforcement of the ground floor. Contractor Polinder Bouw will start with the ascending work of columns and storeys.
After the demolition work, the construction of the ground floor for the Ibis Amsterdam Center hotel is in full swing. The existing mezzanine has been extended to make more space for the backoffice. By breaking away inner walls, the restaurant space will be enlarged. The installations are being renovated, adapted and brought into view.
