Stairs Weert station restored
The stairs of Weert have been restored to their former glory. Due to years of intensive use and the effects of road salt, the old steps had become worn and increasingly crumbling. A thorough renovation of the stairs was necessary to prevent falls. Each step weighed approximately 400 kilos and was removed with a crane. The steps were installed so that they overlapped, making individual replacement of each step impossible. Removing the steps also allowed the underlying steel and concrete structure to be inspected and, where necessary, reinforced or repaired to prevent future damage. The granite steps were replaced one-for-one, with the same detailing, materialization, color, and finish as the original steps. The complete replacement not only provides a uniform appearance of the stairs but also offered the opportunity to further optimize the safety, wear resistance, and maintenance of the stairs.
