Weathered Weert whole in wealth

The steps from the passenger tunnel to the platform at Weert station were in need of replacement. Due to years of intensive use and the effects of road salt, the steps had become worn and increasingly crumbling. To prevent falls, a thorough renovation of the stairs was necessary. Each step weighed approximately 400 kilos and was removed with a crane. The steps were installed so that they overlapped, making individual replacement of each step impossible. Removing the steps also allowed the underlying steel and concrete structure to be inspected and, where necessary, reinforced or repaired to prevent future damage. The granite steps were replaced one-for-one, with the same detailing, materialization, color, and finish as the original steps. This complete replacement not only provides a uniform appearance but also offered the opportunity to further optimize the stairs’ safety, durability, and maintenance.
